Johnson City, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Residents were teeing off Sunday for a good cause at Traditions.
Southern Tier Alternative Therapy held their first annual fundraiser golf tournament.
STAT is a non-profit program run mostly by volunteers.
It helps local children with disabilities to overcome challenges through equine-assisted therapies.
The program began in 2008 by one mother who says her child was brought to life by the therapy.
"My son wouldn't even be walking without horse therapy - without this therapy he just wouldn't," said Catherine Markosky. "He couldn't even sit up until he started riding a horse. It's miraculous, it's crazy, you can't explain to somebody, they have to get to the barn, they have to watch, they have to see it happen."
STAT's horse-therapy programs help children with both physical and cognitive disabilities.
The money raised today will help families with children who can't afford the program on their own.
